Cyber Scallywags stands for collective creativity, open knowledge, and tech with a conscience. We share skills, build projects that matter, and light with ideas powered by community, not capital. The inspiration for this approach came from our founder, Colin Moore-Hill, who, as a young adult, had a dream of working with computers but was constantly being told that people from his working-class background could not do that and he should stay in his lane before he embarrassed himself, his family, and those around him. For a time, he shelved his dream until one day he decided to go for it. It wasn't easy, as his work experience was not considered in the right field, but eventually his tenacity was rewarded and he got his first opportunity. Now, having spent the past 35 years building his career, he has one wish: to be there for somebody else, supporting their dream earlier, as he wished somebody had done it for him. Out of this desire has come the Cyber Scallywags philosophy.
It is for anyone who believes in the power of technology to create positive change. Everyone deserves access to technology opportunities as anyone else. The person who works a shift in McDonald's, then spends the next 8 hours practising their transferable skills. The graduate who can't find a job in their field without experience. The person who juggles multiple jobs to support their family while dreaming of a career in technology. The person who has been told "you don't belong in technology" but knows they have something to contribute. It's not just about coding, but all the skills that make it happen — administration, planning, organisation, design — it's a community. From grassroots workshops to open-source missions, we're helping the next generation of innovators turn curiosity into reality. With just passion, connection, collaboration, and a bit of controlled chaos (Play).
